Basketball Recap: Kailey Broom Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat East Henderson

Smoky Mountain won the last time they faced East Henderson and things went their way on Friday too. The Smoky Mountain Mustangs walked away with a 58-50 win over the East Henderson Eagles.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smoky Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kailey Broom, who posted five points along with eight assists and eight boards. Those eight assists gave Broom a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Voss, who earned 16 points and five rebounds.

Broom wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Smoky Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Henderson only racked up five assists.

East Henderson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kassie Everson, who put up 26 points and five boards, and Mamie Hill, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Smoky Mountain's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-12. As for East Henderson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Smoky Mountain has already played their next contest, a 67-37 defeat against Pisgah on the 21st. As for East Henderson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-39 loss against Franklin on the 21st.
