Winning is just a little bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 21% better than the opposition, a fact the Gayville-Volin Raiders proved on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wausa as Gayville-Volin made off with a 61-35 win. With that win, Gayville-Volin brought their scoring average up to 53 points per game.
Gayville-Volin found their leader in underclassman Taylor Hoxeng, who scored 26 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maia Achen, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Wausa had strong showings from Taylor Dawson, who scored 13 points along with three steals, and Sienna West, who scored 11 points. The match was West's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Olivia Barta was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
The win makes it two in a row for Gayville-Volin and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Wausa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Gayville-Volin will be playing in front of their home fans against Andes Central/Dakota Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wausa, they will head out on the road to face off against Wynot on Friday. Wynot presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wausa in Nebraska (Wynot is ranked 44th, while Wausa is ranked 201st).
