With a playoff game on the line, the Whiteland Warriors rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 50-39 victory over the Olympians. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Whiteland.
Whiteland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophia Dyer led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sukhman Bains, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Columbus East's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelyn Poe, who scored ten points. Messiah Trapp was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Whiteland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season. As for Columbus East, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-18.
Whiteland won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Franklin Community at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Franklin Community is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. Columbus East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
