The Baboquivari Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Peoria 49-44.
Despite the loss, Baboquivari still got an impressive performance from Kara Baptisto, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. Baptisto scored a full 56.8% of Baboquivari's points, the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Samantha Ortiz, who scored six points along with six assists and three steals.
Peoria's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michelle Kogbara, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The game was Kogbara's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Cieraka Lynch was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Baboquivari has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Peoria, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Baboquivari's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rincon/University at 9:00 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Rincon/University is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. Peoria won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Canyon del Oro at 12:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
