The Morningside Academy Eagles on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Grandview Prep Pride at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
On Monday, Morningside Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-40 to Spanish River.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Elijah Clifford, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Clark, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Grandview Prep entered their tilt with Somerset Academy - Canyons with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Grandview Prep took down Somerset Academy - Canyons 77-59 on Friday. Given Grandview Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Somerset Academy - Canyons is ranked 477th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grandview Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Markenson Jordonne, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jordonne scored 15 or more points. Marco Jordonne was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with two steals.
Morningside Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Grandview Prep, their win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Morningside Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58 points per game. However, it's not like Grandview Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 68.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Morningside Academy suffered a grim 58-36 defeat to Grandview Prep in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Morningside Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
