The Canyon View Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Springville Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Canyon View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Canyon View fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Richfield on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 9-8. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Maisy Brady put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 9.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Haiden McDonald made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Navy King, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Springville entered their tilt with Payson on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They blew past the Lions 19-6. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Like Canyon View, Springville also got a great game from a two-way player: Allyx Haveron. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Haveron was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Sami DeLlamas was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kalia Sjoberg was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Springville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matchups.
Canyon View's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Springville, their record is now 9-1.
Canyon View's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Springville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Canyon View continue to outrun the ball?
