The South Philadelphia Rams will venture away from home to take on String Theory at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday. South Philadelphia is looking for their season's first victory.
Thomas A. Edison hit South Philadelphia with a five-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams came up short against the Owls, falling 11-1.
Meanwhile, String Theory made easy work of Prep Charter on Wednesday and carried off a 12-4 win. Considering String Theory has won three contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Masci and Anthony Putnick made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Masci pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Putnick struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Masci also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because String Theory is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. At the plate, Masci went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Putnick went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mark Pietrafesa was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Martin Long was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
String Theory always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
String Theory is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for South Philadelphia, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
South Philadelphia suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to String Theory in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
