The Sweetwater Red Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sweetwater made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hilltop, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Red Devils blew past the Lancers 14-3 on Wednesday.
Tatyana Mosqueda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 14 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Gabriella Sena, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Silva, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Sweetwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilltop only posted an OBP of .389.
Meanwhile, Morse had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Cobras as they made off with a 19-9 win. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Reylyn Sakamoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Dana Montero was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Ciara Lawrence also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sweetwater pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Morse, their record is now 6-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sweetwater hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .434. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sweetwater might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Morse in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
