Basketball Game Preview: La Porte Bulldogs vs. Santa Fe Indians

Two dominant guards in Trent Callies and Aidan Jewell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The La Porte Bulldogs and the Santa Fe Indians will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. La Porte knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Santa Fe likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, La Porte got the win against Ball by a conclusive 82-59. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.

Callies was his usual excellent self, going 10 of 19 en route to 31 points and six steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. Another player making a difference was Caden Watson, who posted 27 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 62-50 to Iowa Colony. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while the Pioneers are ranked 104th).

La Porte will need focus on slowing down Kaidan Mata, one of several Santa Fe players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

La Porte pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Santa Fe, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

La Porte beat Santa Fe 60-53 in their previous matchup back in January. Will La Porte repeat their success, or does Santa Fe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
