Coldwater had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They pulled ahead with a 49-48 photo finish over the Valley View Spartans. The win was nothing new for the Cavaliers as they're now sitting on seven straight dating back to last season.
When it comes to explaining why Valley View lost, don't look at Brody Gibbs. Despite the final result, he rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 88 yards and one TD. The Spartans' leading receiver Brodie Hopkins was Gibbs' top target yet again, picking up 24 receiving yards.
Coming up, Coldwater will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Clinton-Massie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley View, they will head out to challenge Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
