The Jay Royals are taking a road trip to face off against the Gulf Breeze Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Jay will be strutting in after a win while Gulf Breeze will be coming in after a loss.
Jay took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against West Florida by a score of 6-2.

Layna Lowry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Carleigh Baker was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kylei Martinez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Baker wasn't the only one making solid contact: Jay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Gulf Breeze was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Tate.
Jacey Reed was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sally Alberson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Jessica Jagar was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Jay pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gulf Breeze, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Jay was able to grind out a solid victory over Gulf Breeze in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
