Baseball Recap: False River Wins Going Away Against Slaughter Community Charter

After losing to Slaughter Community Charter the last time they met, False River decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Gators blew past the Knights 7-1 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gators.

Preston Guiliory spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, False River let Wyatt Orilion and Cruz Pourciau run wild. Orilion went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI, while Pourciau scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Pourciau is becoming a predictor of False River's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-16-1 when he doesn't). Wyatt Heine was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: False River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.8.

False River's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-17-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Slaughter Community Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. False River will venture away from home to challenge White Castle at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gators are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Slaughter Community Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
