The Meeker Cowboys lost against the Grand Valley Cardinals back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Meeker fell just short of Grand Valley by a score of 47-44. Meeker has struggled against Grand Valley recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Meeker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Hossack. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hossack has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Rogers, who scored eight points.
Grand Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaycee Pittman, who scored 21 points along with seven steals. Pittman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kaylae Medina was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven assists and five steals.
Meeker's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Grand Valley, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Meeker will head out on the road to take on Gunnison at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Grand Valley, Grand Valley and Roaring Fork will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Roaring Fork will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Grand Valley is ranked 42nd).
