The Dougherty Trojans won the last time they faced the Columbus Blue Devils, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Dougherty put the hurt on Columbus with a sharp 71-50 victory. Given Dougherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Columbus is ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dougherty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaleke Singletary-Jinks, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Markelle Jones, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Dougherty and bumps their season record up to 11-5. As for Columbus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dougherty will face off against Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monroe has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 860 points over their last 13 contests. Columbus won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Thomasville at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Thomasville is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
