Carmel is a perfect 4-0 against Lake Zurich since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Corsairs will head out to face off against the Bears at 4:45 p.m. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Lake Zurich will be up against a hot Carmel team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Corsairs came out on top against Grayslake North by a score of 12-7 on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Corsairs have won by exactly five runs.
Grace Brown and Grace King did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while King got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Bella Cameron was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Lake Zurich made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lake Forest on Wednesday. The Bears never let the Scouts get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Bears have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tessa Campobasso made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Campobasso was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lake Zurich got a massive performance out of Claire Kohlman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Kohlman has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Koelper also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Carmel pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lake Zurich, their record now sits at 11-13-1.
Carmel was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake Zurich when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Corsairs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
