Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Elysian Fields turned things around against Ore City on Friday. They blew past the Rebels 12-5. The Yellowjackets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th (when they won 9-0).
Harper Day was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Day was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Owens, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Kirsten Commander, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs.
Elysian Fields always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Union Grove challenged Beckville on Friday. The Lions lost 7-0 to the Bearcats. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Bearcats: they've now lost nine in a row.
Union Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Elysian Fields, they now have a winning record of 12-11-1.
Union Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elysian Fields has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. It's a different story for Union Grove, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain Elysian Fields' hitters?
Elysian Fields came up short against Union Grove in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, falling 15-11. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
