The Jeff Davis Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sumter County Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jeff Davis is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
Last Tuesday, Jeff Davis came up short against Treutlen and fell 58-45. While losing is never fun, Jeff Davis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while Treutlen is ranked 171st).
The losing side was boosted by L'earl Conaway, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was A.J. Hunt, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, even though Worth County scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, Sumter County still came out on top. Sumter County snuck past Worth County with a 62-58 victory.
Jeff Davis has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Sumter County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.
Jeff Davis was dealt a bruising 74-44 loss at the hands of Sumter County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Jeff Davis, Brandon Pope (who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
