Softball Recap: Schoolhouse Prep Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Schoolhouse Prep took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Somerset Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolfpack's pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 1-0 shutout on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolfpack have posted since April 30, 2025.

Somerset Academy's batters probably weren't too happy with Cecilia Valdes, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Valdes.

At the plate, Schoolhouse Prep's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Angelly Benitez, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Michelle Dominguez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Schoolhouse Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somerset Academy struck out 11 times.

Schoolhouse Prep is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schoolhouse Prep will venture away from home to challenge Ferguson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.43 runs per game on average), something the Wolfpack will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Somerset Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Brendan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
