Lane Tech has gone 9-0-1 against Taft recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Champions will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Lane Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Lane Tech is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Rita just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6.
Tyler Trapp and Teo Greco did some serious damage despite the final result: Trapp went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Greco went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Taft made easy work of Holy Trinity on Tuesday and carried off a 19-9 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by nine runs or more this season.
Lucas Espinosa looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Taft let Evan Jocic and Wes Blitz run wild. Jocic went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI, while Blitz went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Jocic has become a key player for Taft: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Nanos, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Taft lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Lane Tech's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Taft, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lane Tech has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lane Tech was able to grind out a solid win over Taft in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-4. Do the Champions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
