Basketball Recap: Hurricane Piles Up the Points Against Carbon

Hurricane posted their biggest win since November 20th on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Carbon Dinos 71-41. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Dinos are ranked 114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hurricane got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryson McCauley out in front who went 7 of 11 en route to 16 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave McCauley a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brigham Kemp, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points.

Hurricane was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carbon only racked up ten assists.

Several Dinos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cannon Mortensen, who posted nine points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Lancaster, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Hurricane is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Carbon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Hurricane and Canyon View will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Carbon, they and Panguitch will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
