Solebury is 0-5 against King's Christian since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Spartans will welcome the Knights at 4:00 p.m. Solebury is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Solebury made up a huge gap compared to their last game against New Foundations, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans fell just short of New Foundations by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bryan Bassler put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Solebury is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-3 otherwise. Bassler was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Bassler wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bering Read, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Read has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask King's Christian). They never let Calvary Academy get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Thursday. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Warrior recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Like Solebury, King's Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Levi Smith. On the mound, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Matty Pancurak struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Smith went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Pancurak went 2-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sam Yoo and Bryce Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Yoo went 4-for-6 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Brown went 5-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three stolen bases gave Yoo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Winklespecht, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
King's Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.
Solebury's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for King's Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Solebury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like King's Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Solebury might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from King's Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
