The Colorado High School Activities Association released the pairings Sunday for the boys soccer state tournaments, and there were no surprises among the top seeds.
Cherry Creek, champion of the Centennial League, earned the top spot in Class 5A, while perennial power Broomfield is the No. 1 seed in 4A. Colorado Springs Christian topped the 3A bracket.
Of note, defending Class 5A champion Denver East did not qualify for the 32-team field. The Angels lost only two games all season, but both came in Denver Prep League play, dropping Denver East to third in the league standings. The DPL receives only two qualifiers, which went to league champion Lincoln, which was seeded fourth, and Denver South.
Rock Canyon is the defending 4A champion and is seeded sixth, while Hotchkiss won the 3A crown in 2008. Hotchkiss did not qualify for the postseason.
The first round in 5A and 3A is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, while the first round in 4A must be completed by Tuesday. Once received, game times will be posted under the Scores link at MaxPreps.
