The Calvert Senecas will head out on the road to square off against the Margaretta Polar Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvert will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Monday, Calvert needed a bit of extra time to put away Monroeville. They won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 4-3. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Senecas have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Ava Eilrich made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over eight innings while giving up three earned runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Eilrich wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kate Coleman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
While Margaretta didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Edison on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Polar Bears, who have now won three matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Calvert, Margaretta also got a great game from a two-way player: Cassidy Lane. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lane was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Hastings, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Lucy Edwards was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.
Margaretta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Calvert's record now sits at 5-0. As for Margaretta, their record is now 5-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calvert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .471. However, it's not like Margaretta struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
