The Steward Spartans waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Virginia Academy by a score of 65-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Steward's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanai Green, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Steward's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Virginia Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Steward won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Saints at 5:00 p.m. on February 6th. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Spartans are ranked 54th). As for Virginia Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
