Lakota and Calvert are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Raiders will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Senecas at 5:00 p.m.
Lakota's last matchup with Hopewell-Loudon could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Monday. The Raiders lost 19-6 to the Chieftains. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Chieftains: they've now lost nine in a row.
Lexi Moon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Calvert had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers an 18-0 shutout. While the Senecas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ava Eilrich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Miller, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Alyssa Rishty was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Calvert's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lakota, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lakota hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakota came out on top in a nail-biter against Calvert when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Senecas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
