Waverly has gone a perfect 10-0 against Elkhorn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Antlers at 7:00 p.m.
Waverly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Bennington, who was ranked 25th at the time (Waverly was ranked fifth). The Vikings fell just short of the Badgers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.
Waverly took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-29, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11.
Despite their loss, Waverly saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emmalyn Quinn, who had 18 digs, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley Real, who had 15 digs.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Cardinals.
The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13.
Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 26-5. As for Elkhorn, their victory bumped their record up to 18-13.
Waverly was able to grind out a solid win over Elkhorn in their previous meeting back in September, winning 2-0. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Antlers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
