Peru has gone 7-2 against Whitko recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Tigers will take on the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Peru has three straight victories, Whitko has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Monday. Peru came out on top against Northwestern by a score of 10-6. Ten seems to be a good number for Peru as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Peru got a big performance out of Gavin Eldridge, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Reis Bellar, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Whitko lost 13-3 to Rochester on Monday.
Riley Harman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Whitko's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 6-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Easton Grable, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Peru's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Whitko, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Peru has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whitko struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Peru's way against Whitko in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Peru made off with a 12-3 victory. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
