The Evansville Memorial Tigers will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Evansville Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Evansville Memorial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-54 to Terre Haute North Vigo.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Tucker Tornatta, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. He scored a full 33.3% of Evansville Memorial's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Dylen Kendrick was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory entered their tilt with Purdue Polytechnic with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory claimed a resounding 79-44 victory over Purdue Polytechnic on the road. The result was nothing new for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, who have now won six games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Javawn Brooks, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds, and Evan Haywood, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Brooks pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Ford, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Evansville Memorial has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Evansville Memorial have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, though, as they've been averaging only 29.1 rebounds per game. Given Evansville Memorial's sizeable advantage in that area, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory will need to find a way to close that gap.
