It was a good run, but the Fort Hancock Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 53-38 bruising from Wink. Fort Hancock found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Fort Hancock lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alessandra Jimenez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jimenez hasn't dropped below two steals for 17 straight games. Marisol Diaz was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Aizlyn Dewberry, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 26 rebounds for Wink. Dewberry is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Dodd-fernandes, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Fort Hancock's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6. As for Wink, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Hancock will take on Anthony at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Anthony is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Wink, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McCamey at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McCamey will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1436th, while Wink is ranked 623rd).
