West Creek and Hume-Fogg are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Coyote will challenge the Blue Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. West Creek has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight losses, while Hume-Fogg will come in with five straight wins.
West Creek came up short against Rossview on Thursday, falling 19-1.
West Creek saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leonidus Muniz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Muniz snagged this season. Another was Donte Castro, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Hume-Fogg made easy work of Glencliff on Thursday and carried off a 12-1 victory.
Boston Harborth looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Hume-Fogg: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Gavin Woody was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Desmond Vecchio, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Hume-Fogg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Hume-Fogg's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for West Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hume-Fogg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Creek skirted past Hume-Fogg 6-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coyote since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
