The Franklin Academy Panthers lost against the Somerset Academy Panthers back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Franklin Academy was beaten by the Panthers 80-38. Franklin Academy has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their match on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Franklin Academy had strong showings from Jacob Alicot, who scored 17 points, and Robert Guishard, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Trent Davis, who scored six points.
Johnathan Point du jour was his usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with five steals for Somerset Academy. Point du jour is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Anthony Henderson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists.
Franklin Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Somerset Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.
Franklin Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against the Barracudas at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Smyrna Beach presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in Florida (the Barracudas are ranked 208th, while the Panthers are ranked 569th). As for Somerset Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
