Westwood is 8-1-1 against Fort Lee since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Bridgemen at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Westwood needed a bit of extra time to put away Ramsey. They won by a run and slipped past the Rams 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since May 11, 2024.
Jack Walsh was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Walsh was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
In other pitching news, Andrew Rodriguez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Joe Cerritelli, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Mardi Ekmekjian was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Fort Lee waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Maroon Raiders. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Paul Bonilla looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Stephan Kim and Jake Lee did most of the damage at the plate: Kim scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Lee scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave Lee a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Senatore, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
The win got Westwood back to even at 2-2. As for Fort Lee, their record now sits at 5-2.
Everything went Westwood's way against Fort Lee in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Westwood made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
