Limon is 7-2 against Yuma since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Badgers will host the Outlaws at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Limon barely beat Las Animas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Badgers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Trojans on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Badgers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.
Brody Scherrer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Scherrer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Quinten Blatnick was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camdyn Tacha, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Yuma never let their opponents score on Saturday. Everything went their way against Holyoke as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Outlaws.
Like Limon, Yuma also got a great game from a two-way player: Jose Ross. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ross has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Thomson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Lennox Huwa was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Yuma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holyoke only posted a batting average of .188.
Yuma's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Limon, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Limon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Yuma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Limon's way against Yuma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Limon made off with an 11-0 victory. Do the Badgers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Outlaws turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
