The Holly Grove Christian Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Chincoteague Ponies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Holly Grove Christian took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Greenwood Mennonite, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Flames 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Flames since April 30, 2018.
Nathan Hamilton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Holly Grove Christian is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Hamilton was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Hamilton wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Forbush, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Chincoteague never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Northampton on Wednesday. They walked away with a 16-12 victory over the Yellowjackets. With that win, the Ponies brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Brady Roberts was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Logan Jr, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Chincoteague was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Holly Grove Christian's record now sits at 3-4. As for Chincoteague, their record is now 6-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Holly Grove Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chincoteague struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Holly Grove Christian might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Chincoteague in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
