5A Region IV District 31 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rowe, who took down 428th ranked Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, 63-60.
Weslaco was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A Region IV District 31. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 41-7.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's dynamic duo of Manny Mancillas and Jaime Borrego proved tough for Weslaco East to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mancillas threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns and Borrego had 117 yards receiving. Christian Ramirez helped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's passing attack out by catching three balls for 84 yards.
SAUL CUELLAR was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 78 yards on 12 carries as the Wildcats lost to the Wildcats. MARCO NAVARRO also contributed to the rushing game with 78 yards on the ground.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's Mancillas and Borrego have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mancillas has thrown for 1487 yards this season, while Borrego has 46 catches for 865 yards. McAllen Memorial's Trevor Speights leads the league in rushing yards with 1192.
A big matchup in 5A Region IV District 31 this week will be when Weslaco East takes on the Warriors. As it stands, Armando Cuellar's team is in first, while Rowe is in fifth.
Gary Lauer's team moved up to 551 from 609 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to make move up by defeating the Raiders 63-60.
