The Capital Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Borah Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Capital was able to grind out a solid victory over Boise, taking the game 5-2.
The team relied heavily on Preston Christianson, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Wyatt Call also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Borah faced off against Mountain Home on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Tigers. The Lions not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
Jack Meimann looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits.
At the plate, Tate Kubena and Brady Robinson did most of the damage at the plate: Kubena went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Robinson scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Robinson has become a key player for Borah: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordell Sparks, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Borah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Capital's record is now 8-5. As for Borah, their record now sits at 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Capital has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Borah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Capital took their win against Borah in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
