If the Hawken Hawks were riding high off their 73-46 takedown of the Cleveland Central Catholic Ironmen last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hawken fell 39-31 to the Lions on Wednesday. Hawken was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Julia Scales, who scored five points along with 19 rebounds and three steals. Sophia Cicerini was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Leading Orange to victory were Kynnade Bates and Rachel Oberster. Bates scored 12 points, while Oberster scored 17 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Oberster has scored at least a third of Orange's points.
Hawken has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Orange, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawken will take on the Green Wave at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holy Name is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Orange, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Rangers at 6:45 p.m. on February 5th.
