The James Island Trojans will face off against the Covenant Day Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Island is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
James Island took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Stratford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. James Island sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Stratford on Monday.
Mary Davis Hancock made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over ten innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). Hancock was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachel Manchester, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. Amelia Renault also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Covenant Day came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like James Island, Covenant Day also got a great game from a two-way player: Alison Vandiver. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Vandiver has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Reilly Jane (RJ) Llaneza was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Charlotte Hall was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Covenant Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.
Covenant Day's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for James Island, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
