Basketball Game Preview: Penn Kingsmen vs. La Porte Slicers

Penn has gone 10-0 against La Porte recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Penn Kingsmen will head out on the road to face off against the La Porte Slicers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Penn has five straight victories, La Porte has 28 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Penn is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing South Bend St. Joseph: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Penn blew South Bend St. Joseph out of the water with a 66-35 final score. The Kingsmen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Penn found their leader in freshman Addison Hummel, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Those 19 points gave Hummel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jessa Troy, who went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points along with five assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, La Porte played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 53-28 to Lowell. While losing is never fun, the Slicers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 367th, while the Red Devils are ranked 177th).

Penn is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.2 points per game. As for La Porte, their loss dropped their record down to 0-20.

Everything came up roses for Penn against La Porte when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 62-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Penn since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
