Even though the Piscataquis Pirates have not done well against the Dexter Tigers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Piscataquis narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Dexter 50-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Piscataquis.
Despite the loss, Dexter had strong showings from Ethan Doherty, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, and Will Spratt, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bryce Cooper, who scored eight points.
Piscataquis' victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Dexter, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
Piscataquis won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Stearns at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. Stearns will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Piscataquis is ranked 16th). As for Dexter, they will head out on the road to face off against Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
