Basketball Game Preview: Rise Academy Guardians vs. Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans

The Rise Academy Guardians will venture away from home to challenge the Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rise Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Rise Academy saw some tournament action last Saturday. They walked away with a 74-64 victory over Dinwiddie.

Rise Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathaniel Seaborn out in front who posted 26 points. The matchup was Seaborn's third in a row with at least ten points. Trevonte Atkins was another key player, putting up 16 points along with five assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, Veritas Collegiate Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 83-82 to Salem.

Rise Academy will have to contain Marcqell Freeman as he made an impact in Veritas Collegiate Academy's last game. He dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 assists. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last 28 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Wray, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points.

Rise Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Rise Academy was taken down by Veritas Collegiate Academy 103-65 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Rise Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
