Two dominant backs in Braylon Thompson and Zane McCraw are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brevard Blue Devils will take on the West Henderson Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Brevard's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Brevard humbled East Henderson with a 46-7 victory. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Brevard can attribute much of their success to Chrstian Conley, who rushed for 70 yards and one TD, and Simon Robinson, who rushed for 43 yards and one score. Another big playmaker for the Blue Devils was Tristan Thompson-Wynn, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Brevard proved: they limited East Henderson to a paltry two yards per carry. The team can thank Bryson Bess for the heroic effort on defense: he. Brevard didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.7.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led West Henderson over Smoky Mountain in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. The Falcons blew past the Mustangs 34-8. Considering the Falcons have won three matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
West Henderson had a senior duo take command as Cade Young threw for 183 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes and Asa Ostman picked up 97 receiving yards and one TD. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 65 yards.
West Henderson's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ostman.
Brevard's record is now 7-0. As for West Henderson, their record now sits at 5-2.
Everything came up roses for Brevard against West Henderson in their previous meeting back in October of 2016, as the team secured a 42-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
