Clarkton is 0-4 against Holcomb since March of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Reindeer will host the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Clarkton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Pemiscot, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Reindeer blew past the Mustangs 28-8 on Tuesday.
Riley Plunkett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Plunkett was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Clarkton got a massive performance out of Denise Wellington, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Lyla Hernandez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holcomb). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Gideon a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Clarkton, Holcomb also got a great game from a two-way player: Khloe Furlow. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furlow was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI and one double. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Chloe Coronado was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-2. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Joiner, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Holcomb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clarkton might still be hurting after the 21-6 loss they got from Holcomb in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Reindeer have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
