Mount View hasn't had much luck against Greenbrier West recently, but that could start to change on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Mount View is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 21st last Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Montcalm 8-6.
Phoebe Dudgeon was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malayah Barnes, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 16 times she's played. Krislyn York was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Greenbrier West put up plenty of runs last Tuesday, the same can't be said for Webster County. The Cavaliers blew past the Highlanders 21-0. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Mount View, Greenbrier West also got a great game from a two-way player: Brilee Redden. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Redden has posted over her last nine matches. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Madalyn Fields was a standout: she fired off four runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Preslee Treadway, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.
Greenbrier West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Mount View pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier West, their record is now 16-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mount View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Greenbrier West struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mount View suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Greenbrier West when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can the Golden Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
