Basketball Recap: Purdue Polytechnic's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

If Purdue Polytechnic was feeling good fresh off their 84-17 takedown of Indianapolis Arsenal Technical last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Purdue Polytechnic Techies fell to the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles 54-50. The Techies' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Purdue Polytechnic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marrina Simmons, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Simmons a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Nyiah Rogers, who posted 12 points along with five boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Purdue Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Ava Bills was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 36 points and ten rebounds for Guerin Catholic. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bills has scored at least a third of Guerin Catholic's points. Dana Dues was another key player, putting up eight points.

Purdue Polytechnic's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Guerin Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5.

Purdue Polytechnic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-60 loss against Richmond on the 27th. As for Guerin Catholic, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on University at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Guerin Catholic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
