This season hasn't been kind to the Calhoun Sandcrabs, who are still winless after their fourth game. They were dealt a 68-41 defeat at the hands of Sweeny on Tuesday. Calhoun lost against Sweeny in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-49 score last time.
Leading Sweeny to victory were Clinton Varner and Warrick Hernandez. Varner dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Hernandez scored 20 points along with four steals. The matchup was Varner's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kendrick Hernandez, who scored seven points.
Calhoun's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4. As for Sweeny, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Calhoun will take on Tarkington at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tarkington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Calhoun in Texas (Tarkington is ranked 632nd, while Calhoun is ranked 1440th). Sweeny's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tenaha at 12:30 p.m. on December 7th.
