Fans got a thrill when Brad Mayes and Jacob Mathis connected against Tampa Catholic. The connection went for 67 yards, the longest such play in 3A District 4 this season.
The Crusaders added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Berkeley Prep, 17-10. The victory was the sixth in a row for Tampa Catholic.
Christian Alexander threw for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns.
T. J. Simmons was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 50 yards as Lakeland Christian lost to Mike Gregory's team.
On the heels of Alexander and Simmons, the Vikings have had great success on offense. Alexander leads the league in passing with 1,245 yards, while Simmons has rushed for 901 yards this season. Fort Meade's Tobias Culpepper leads the league in receiving yards with 463 on 26 catches.
The top two teams in 3A District 4 will face off this week when first place Tampa Catholic takes on second place Lakeland Christian. The Crusaders topped Berkeley Prep last week, while Lakeland Christian lost to Frostproof.
Simmons of the Wayne Peace's team is just 99 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 89 carries Simmons has put up 901 yards this year.
Next week's game between the Vikings and the Crusaders will feature a good passing match up as Alexander will test his arm against Willie Conley's defensive ability.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Lakeland Christian and Tampa Catholic face off next week.
The Bulldogs scaled the state rankings by moving to 146 from 192 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Frostproof was able to move up by beating the Vikings 55-13.
