Erie hasn't had much luck against Cathedral Prep recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Royals will welcome the Ramblers at 4:00 p.m.
On Monday, Erie came up short against General McLane and fell 5-2. The Royals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cameron Barnes was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Nuber, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Prep waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Red Raiders 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Ramblers, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Derick Friedman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other pitching news, Frank Thomas looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Cathedral Prep got a big performance out of Davin Friedman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Friedman is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mathius Sprickman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Cathedral Prep's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Erie might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Cathedral Prep in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Royals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
