The East Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by Chaney on the road and fell 51-20. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for East in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why East lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brooklynn Diener. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals. That was a full 50% of East's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Za'Miya Brown, who scored eight points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, East struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chaney racked up 11 assists.
Alyssa Brown was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with eight assists and eight steals for Chaney. Brown hasn't dropped below 25 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Madonna Jones, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
East dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.5 points per game. As for Chaney, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
East will be playing at home against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chaney, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
