Chesterton hasn't had much luck against Crown Point recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Chesterton has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chesterton is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Lake Central on Tuesday. They lost 12-1 to the Indians.
Meanwhile, Crown Point waltzed into their game on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Indians. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Paige Liezert looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ashlyn Kita was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Lulu Johnston, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base.
Crown Point lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Crown Point's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterton, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Chesterton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Crown Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chesterton suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Crown Point in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
